ATTORNEY & LAW STUDENT HIRING

Who would be a successful candidate for Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP?

A candidate must demonstrate academic excellence as well as success in extracurricular activities, such as moot court, law review, or other professional activities. We want associates who have a strong work ethic and top communication skills. Most importantly, we want associates to strive to provide the highest quality services to our clients.

What can Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP offer a prospective candidate?

Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP is an aggressive and growing law firm. It offers early opportunity for lawyers to develop their practice. Through practical experience, Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP is committed to the success of its attorneys. The morale of the lawyers in the firm reflects this commitment. The firm hires new associates at both the entry and lateral level with an eye toward their potential for becoming a partner in the firm.

Can you describe Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP’s summer associate program?

Each year, we interview second-year students at some of the top law schools in the country in search of potential new associates. The Summer Associate Program is unusual in both its breadth and commitment. The firm believes in providing summer associates with a realistic experience of what the practice of law is like. Our summer associates are asked not only to perform legal research and draft legal memoranda, but also to participate in discovery, attend hearings, and meet with clients both locally and out of state. We view the Summer Associate Program as an opportunity to evaluate potential new associates in a real-life work environment. In the process, summer associates are better able to evaluate the firm’s attorneys as potential colleagues.

The Summer Associate Program, however, is not all work and no play. The firm hosts various social functions throughout the summer to provide the associates an opportunity to meet the firm’s attorneys and their families in a social environment. These functions include dinners, luncheons, professional baseball games, concerts, cocktail parties, and tennis and golf outings. These outings also enable candidates to experience the excellent quality of life in the cities in which we practice.
