Attorneys to Address 2012 International Construction Law Conference in London

Fri Sep 28, 2012

SEATTLE, Washington, August 1, 2012 – Noted construction law experts James Nagle and Douglas Oles, senior partners with Seattle-based law firm Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker, LLP, have been invited to London, England to address the 2012 International Construction Law Conference organized by the United Kingdom Society of Construction Law.

On Sept. 23, the attorneys will discuss the topic of “Suspension and Termination of Construction Agreements” during a supplemental program at the conference on construction-related and comparative law topics arranged by the American College of Construction Lawyers and the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers. Oles will also speak on Sept. 24 in a session at the conference addressing international advocacy.

Since its founding in 1983, the Society has promoted the public benefit of education, study and research in the field of construction law and related subjects, including alternative dispute resolution, arbitration and adjudication, both in the UK and overseas.

Nagle is nationally renowned for his expertise in federal contracting, particularly in the area of construction law. He has extensive experience including working with supply, services, international, major systems and construction contracts.  He has represented owners, contractors, subcontractors, sureties, architects, engineers and all parties in the contracting process. His local and national reputation is such that both the government and contractors have used him as a consultant, expert witness or arbitrator/mediator.  Prior to joining the firm, he served as chief of the Logistics and Contract Law Branch of the Department of the Army staff.  He also served as a trial team chief in the Army’s Contract Appeals Division.

For more than 25 years, Oles has concentrated his practice on helping clients to avoid and resolve disputes on complex contracts relating to construction, supply, real estate development and intellectual property licensing.  He has prepared, negotiated and litigated claims resulting in recoveries in excess of $100 million on major projects performed for government agencies and private owners.  Most of his work has been in the western United States and Alaska, but assignments have ranged from Europe to South America.

As a principal developer of the firm’s international contracts practice, he has joined the faculty at conferences of the Canadian Bar Association’s National Construction Law Section and the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers, and chaired the first construction conference to be planned jointly by the Canadian and American Bar Associations.

“We are delighted to participate in this important international conference and are looking forward to the lively exchange of ideas,” said Nagle. Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker, LLP is one of the Northwest’s most respected law firms with practice areas in construction, government contracts, business law and commercial litigation.
