Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker, LLP Wins $13 Million Settlement for Parsons Corporation

Tue Nov 1, 2011

SEATTLE, Washington, August 2011 – Attorneys at Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker, LLP, a Seattle-based law firm with practices related to construction, government contracts and public procurement, have recently negotiated a $13 million settlement on behalf of the firm’s client Parsons Corporation, an engineering, construction, technical, and management services firm with revenues of $2.7 billion in 2010.

The case centered on a contract Parsons had with the United States Air Force to build security gates at nine bases around the country in light of increased security requirements after the September 11 terrorist attack.

Firm partners Douglas Oles, James Nagle and Jon DeMella successfully represented Parsons in the company’s claim that the government demanded in the course of the fixed-price design-build project far more than what was negotiated and priced in the original fixed price.

“We are delighted with the outcome of this case, which was anticipated to require a month-long trial,” said Nagle.  “However, the case was settled on the morning of the third day when the Air Force agreed to pay $13 million and also agreed to revise the past performance ratings that had been provided to Parsons on the project.”

Nagle’s practice focuses on government contracts.  He has extensive experience including working with supply, services, international, major systems, and construction contracts.  He has represented owners, contractors, subcontractors, sureties, architects, engineers and all parties in the contracting process.

For more than 20 years, Oles has concentrated his practice on helping clients to avoid and resolve disputes on complex contracts relating to construction, supply, real estate development and intellectual property licensing.  He has prepared, negotiated and litigated claims resulting in recoveries in excess of $100 million on major projects performed for government agencies and private owners.

DeMella’s legal expertise includes assisting contractors involved in disputes with the Federal Government and counseling clients in many areas of construction and government contract law.
